Ruanui is made up of 16 hapu representatives.
Responsibility of
the Hapu Representative
The core responsibility of the Hapu Representative is outlined in
the Amalgamated Deed of Trust as follows:
10.2 - Fundamental Duty
The Hapu Representative and Alternative Hapu
Representative will administer the assets and liabilities of Te
Runanga as kaitiaki for Ngati Ruanui. In performing those duties
each Hapu Representative and Alternative Hapu Representative will
act in good faith and in a manner that:
-
a) is consistent with tikanga, Ngati
Ruanuitanga; and
-
b) the Hapu Representative or Alternative
Hapu Representative believes on reasonable grounds is in the best
interests of Ngati Ruanui.
10.3 - Collective interests of Ngati
Ruanui
A Hapu Representative or an Alternative Hapu
Representative must not, when exercising powers or performing
duties as a Hapu Representative, act or agree to act in a manner
which unfairly prejudices or unfairly discriminates against any
particular Beneficiaries unless that Hapu Representative or
Alternative Hapu Representative believes on reasonable grounds that
the fundamental duty set out in sub-clause 10.2 requires such
action.
