Ngati Ruanui presence in, on and around Maunga Taranaki is something that Ngati Ruanui have always aspired to achieve. While this has been captured in part through Statutory Acknowledgement, the purchase of the Ngati Ruanui Stratford Mountain House and relationship protocols with various organisations, Ngati Ruanui have an opportunity now to settle with the Crown on the Maunga Taranaki Historical Treaty Claim alongside all Iwi of Taranaki.
Te Runanga o Ngati Ruanui Trust have been preparing high level aspirations of Ngati Ruanui. In the coming months hui will be called with nga uri o Ngati Ruanui to gather korero and keep whanau updated as this kaupapa progresses.
Ngati Ruanui are fortunate enough to have Haimona Maruera (Jnr) as a member on the Negotiations Team. Ngati Ruanui supported Haimona to pursue a position in this role at the November 2016 AGM and expect that he will represent Ngati Ruanui views well when engaging at Crown level.
This will be first of many panui over the coming months that will keep uri up to date with both the negotiaiton team and where Pou Tuara is at.

March 2017: Terms of Negotiation signed in Parliament
April 2017: Engagement with Nga uri o Ngati Ruanui commences
July 2017: Engagement with Nga uri o Ngati Ruanui concludes and report drafted.
August 2017: Nga Iwi o Taranaki sign the Agreement in Principle.
