Te Runanga o Ngati Ruanui is made up of 16 Pou Tuara
Responsibility of the Pou Tuara
The core responsibility of the Hapu Representative is outlined in the Amalgamated Deed of Trust as follows:
10.2 – Fundamental Duty
The Pou Tuara and Alternative Pou Tuara will administer the assets and liabilities of Te Runanga as kaitiaki for Ngati Ruanui. In performing those duties each Pou Tuara and Alternative Pou Tuara will act in good faith and in a manner that:
is consistent with tikanga, Ngati Ruanuitanga; and
the Pou Tuara and Alternative Pou Tuara believes on reasonable grounds is in the best interests of Ngati Ruanui.
10.3 – Collective interests of Ngati Ruanui
A Pou Tuara and Alternative Pou Tuara must not, when exercising powers or performing duties as a Hapu Representative, act or agree to act in a manner which unfairly prejudices or unfairly discriminates against any particular Beneficiaries unless that Pou Tuara and Alternative Pou Tuara believes on reasonable grounds that the fundamental duty set out in sub-clause 10.2 requires such action.
